A woman has been taken to hospital following a suspected hit and run in Livingston.

The 79-year-old was struck by a red Dacia Sandero on Knightsridge Road East in the West Lothian town at around 16:50 on Saturday.

The driver failed to stop after the collision.

A 33-year-old woman was arrested in connection with road traffic offences, but has been released pending further inquiries.

The pedestrian was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh were she remains in a stable condition.

Police closed the road for around four hours after the crash to allow an initial investigation to take place.

It reopened at around 21:00.

Road Policing Sergeant Grant Hastie said: “I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the crash to please contact us., external"
