Man seriously injured in city centre assault

A man has been left with "potentially life-threatening" injuries after he was assaulted in Wakefield city centre.
Officers were called to Almsgate near the New Union pub at about 01:55 BST on Sunday, where a man was being treated by paramedics.
West Yorkshire Police said he had been involved in an altercation with another man about an hour earlier, with the injured man taken to hospital.
A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident, the force confirmed.
Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to come forward.
