A new play area has opened at a Leicestershire park in time for its busiest period.

The equipment was installed at Brocks Hill Country Park in Oadby, with the play area officially opening at the end of July.

There is a new zip line, balance trail, and climbing frame, as well as a sensory area that includes panels and sign language prompts.

Oadby and Wigston Borough Council, the authority that runs the country park, said the sensory additions will help to support inclusivity at the park.

Councillor Jeffrey Kaufman, ward member for Oadby Brocks Hill, said: “We’re delighted to be able to open the play area on schedule and in time for the summer holidays, which is the park’s busiest period.

“The park is already a special place for families with its winding pathways, wooded sections, community orchard, and den building area, in addition to the existing play equipment.

“It’s important, though, that we continue to invest in our parks, looking to improve the offer for our communities, including children.”

The borough council has also invested in new equipment at Freer Park in Wigston, which includes a new table tennis table, basketball ring, and mini-goal.

A teqball table has also been installed at Freer Park, a new sport originating in Hungary that combines elements of football, table tennis and volleyball.
