Man arrested after pedestrian left badly injured

A man is in hospital after a serious crash in Brighton in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Sussex Police said they were called to the A259 Marine Drive just before 03:00 BST after a crash between a car and a pedestrian happened at the junction with Arundel Road.

The pedestrian, in his 20s, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with serious injuries, where he remains.

A 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.

He is currently in custody.

Sussex Police are investigating, and have appealed for witnesses or anyone with footage to come forward.

The road was closed after the collision but it has since reopened.
