A road closure, at the junction of Bankside Park and Air Street in Wincolmlee, Hull, has been lifted

A stretch of road in an area hit by a series of closures has reopened, Hull City Council has said.

The closure, at the junction of Bankside Park and Air Street in Wincolmlee, has been lifted following the completion of "essential work" by Northern Gas Networks (NGN).

Work to replace ageing metal pipework was originally due to be finished in September but was delayed after the utility company said it "proved to be more challenging and complicated than we originally anticipated".

The closure order was one of 17 the city's council said it had issued for the Wincolmlee area since April 2020.

At the time, NGN said its investigations found "a large area of metallic pipework required permanently replacing with a more durable plastic version, which will greatly reduce the risk of gas leaks in this location in the future".

Traders in the area had previously told of the impact the closures were having on their businesses.

Craig Beverley, from Bankside Cafe, said he had been left with "no passing trade".

Businesses who had lost money as a result of the work in this area may be eligible to claim compensation, NGN said.
