A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life following a fire at an apartment block.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to Laurel Place on the Kingsbourne Estate, near Nantwich, at about 08:30 GMT on Saturday.

Five fire engines travelled to the scene, where crews tackled the blaze and evacuated the rest of the building.

The fire service said they believed the blaze was contained to one flat.

Some residents were assessed for light smoke inhalation and one casualty was treated by paramedics.

A rest centre has been opened nearby.

Cheshire Police says the suspect remains in custody and investigations are ongoing.
