A swimming pool that was closed after a tree fell on the building as Storm Benjamin swept across the South East has reopened.

On Thursday, Sheppey Leisure Centre in Sheerness, Kent, said a structural survey was due to take place and that its pool and health centre would remain closed until it was deemed safe.

The following day it confirmed the building had reopened.

"A huge thank you to everyone for your patience, goodwill messages, and understanding, and to Swale Borough Council for their swift action in helping us reach this point so quickly," the centre said.

Storm Benjamin sparked several alerts across Kent, Surrey, East Sussex and West Sussex on Thursday.

Ferry company DFDS said delays had affected all its Dover to Calais services due to "strong winds" in the English Channel.

Its services between Newhaven and Dieppe were also cancelled.
