Copper broadband network switch-off begins

A copper broadband network switch-off has started as the new fibre system continues to be rolled out in Guernsey.

Telecommunications firm Sure and the island's government said two-thirds of homes had already changed to the fibre network which provided faster internet speeds and greater connectivity.

They said the copper network's switch-off would continue throughout 2026 as part of the £37.5m project.

Sure chief operating officer Cyrille Joffre, who is leading the the roll-out, said it was "vital" everyone including landline-only customers switched to fibre and urged people who had not changed over to do so as soon as possible.
