A man has been given a three-year football banning order after admitting throwing a bottle at a match.

Kevin Hennessey, 45, from Oxford, threw the missile on to the pitch after Middlesbrough scored against Oxford United during their 6-2 away win at the Kassam Stadium on 23 November.

Hennessey, of Bulan Road, Headington, was ordered to pay a £150 fine, £85 in court costs and a £60 surcharge by Oxford magistrates last Thursday.

As part of the order, he has been banned from going within a mile of the Kassam Stadium four hours before and six hours after an Oxford United home match.

He must also not enter Oxford city centre four hours before or six hours after any U's home games.

Police said "football matches should be a safe place for all people and Thames Valley Police will always deal with incidents at football matches robustly".
