Local authority partnership saves £600k - council

The joint management approach introduced in 2022 has already generated savings of £603,000

A partnership between two Surrey local authorities has created savings of more than £600,000, one of the councils says.

Guildford and Waverley Borough Councils (WBC) began sharing services in 2022 to cut costs.

A report by public sector consultancy Local Partnerships said the partnership has saved £603,000 since its inception, WBC said.

Waverley leader Councillor Paul Follows said: "Our joint working has allowed us to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and maintain the standards of our services."

Julia McShane, a Guildford councillor, said it had been a "wise investment".

The report recommends that the two councils find new areas where they can share services.
