Hundreds take part in annual seafront Santa Dash

Hundreds of runners dressed as Santa Claus took part in the 5km run on Saturday morning

Hundreds of people have taken part in the annual Santa Dash event on a seafront in East Sussex.

Runners dressed as Santa Claus took part in a 5km run, which began at the Peace Statue in Brighton, opposite Hove Lawns, at 10:30 GMT on Saturday.

The event was originally due to be held on 7 December but was postponed due to Storm Darragh.

The dash was raising money for Rockinghorse Children's Charity, the charity for the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital.

Event organisers said the Santa Dash event was "the most fun you can have in Brighton".

Participants were encouraged to walk, jog or run, with a virtual event also on offer.

The race route heads west along the seafront esplanade for 2.5km to Hove Lagoon before turning around and returning to the Peace Statue.

Similar events have been held across the UK in recent weeks, with more than 8,000 people completing the event in Liverpool earlier this month.
