A murder investigation has been launched after a man died following an assault at a house.

South Wales Police said it received a call just before 20:00 GMT on Sunday saying a 30-year-old man had been assaulted in Treforest, Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Police cordons have been put in place on Princess Street in the village while inquiries continue.

Det Supt Mark O'Shea said "it's imperative we find out exactly what happened".

He added: “I would urge anyone who was in the area between 19:00 and 20:30 last night and saw anything they believe may assist our investigation to get in touch.

“If you have dashcam footage, private CCTV or doorbell footage please send it to us.”

He said the force was particularly keen to have any footage along Broadway towards Pontypridd town centre.

“If you say, of have heard anything since, no matter how insignificant you might think it is, at the very least your information could add certainty to details that we haven’t confirmed,” he added.

The force added that there would be an increased police presence in the area.
