A city's new £31m footbridge will officially open next week.
Keel Crossing, which links Sunderland city centre and the Stadium of Light, will welcome pedestrians on 18 October, when Sunderland AFC take on Wolves at their home ground.
Councillor Michael Mordey, leader of the Labour-run city council, said the opening was a significant moment for the city, while SAFC's chief business officer David Bruce called it a "game-changer".
The footbridge opened for one day in August for the first game of the Women's Rugby World Cup, which took place in the city.
The crossing is expected to create better connections between the north of Sunderland and the city centre, as well as ease footfall on match days.
"The crossing will be a game-changer for fans making their way to and from the Stadium of Light, as we saw for the Women's Rugby World Cup," Mr Bruce said.
"The walkway will not only knit communities together but also create an iconic ritual for supporters that will be passed down from generation to generation."

The official opening will be marked with entertainment on Keel Square, where archive SAFC footage will be screened.
A meet-and-greet with former players will also take place in the build up to kick-off.
At 14:00 BST, a fan parade will depart from Keel Square and will continue over the Keel Crossing to Sheepfolds and the Stadium of Light.
Mordey added contractors would remain on site to complete landscaping and minor cosmetic works.
"The opening of the Keel Crossing is a significant moment for Sunderland," he said.
"It is a spectacular symbol of our city's transformation and ambition.
"This bridge is about much more than crossing the Wear; it's about opening up opportunities for residents and showcasing the confidence and momentum driving our city forward."
The Keel Crossing is one of several high-profile developments under construction as part of the Riverside Sunderland scheme, including Culture House and the new eye hospital.
It measures 32ft (10m) wide and spans 853ft (260m), at a height of 98ft (30m) above the river.
