Police are appealing for a driver to come forward after a pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash in Ashby-de-la-Zouch.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Hill Street and Kilwardby Street just after 21:30 BST on Monday.

A man in his 70s was treated at the scene and was taken to hospital with serious injuries, Leicestershire Police said.

The force said initial inquiries indicated a silver car had been involved in the crash but left the scene. They have now appealed for the driver or any further witnesses to contact them.

Det Con Alison Briance said: "Our investigation to establish the circumstances of what happened and locate the driver involved is continuing.

"If that person has seen this appeal, then please do the right thing and make yourself known to us.

"I'm also appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward. This includes any eyewitnesses, motorists with dashcam footage or anyone with CCTV or doorbell footage.

"Anything you can provide could help."

Police confirmed no arrests have been made.
