A motorbike stunt rider injured during a show at Blackpool Tower Circus is "awake and recovering in hospital, organisers said.

The performance was brought to a halt after the rider crashed during a segment called Globe of Speed, during which motorbikes ride around the inside of an enclosed metal sphere.

Blackpool Tourism Ltd said the performer is "awake and well" but will remain in hospital for observation as a "precautionary measure" after Tuesday's incident.

The Health and Safety Executive said it would be "making enquiries".

A spokesperson for Blackpool Tourism Ltd added: "We'd like to thank all guests for their respect shown during the show, and all those who have passed on their well wishes.

"We'd also like to extend our thanks to Blackpool's emergency services for their response to this incident.

"All guests with tickets to The Blackpool Tower Circus will be contacted by our Guest Services Team shortly."

An earlier version of this story included the incorrect name of the team involved in the incident. The BBC corrected this story on 24 September 2025.
