Volunteers clear waste and weeds from city streets

A community group has praised volunteers who have spent about 150 hours clearing waste from city streets.
InExeter, the business improvement district (BID) for Exeter city centre, said 60 wheelbarrows of weeds had been cleared through its "neighbourhood action days".
The scheme, which started earlier this year, has seen improvements in areas such as Gandy Street, the Castle Quarter walkway near Exeter Phoenix and thoroughfares including Sidwell Street.
Volunteer activities include litter-picking, sweeping, weeding, pathway cleaning, flower bed maintenance and rejuvenating street furniture.
InExeter chief executive Nicola Wheeler said: "We are dedicated to supporting local businesses and improving Exeter's streetscape.
"Even small actions can lead to big changes, and we encourage everyone to join us in making our city a more beautiful and welcoming place."
A team from Primark participated in an action day on South Street.
Store manager Aaron Bliss said: "That sense of accomplishment makes it all the more worthwhile."
