A main route in east Dorset is set to close while a tree wedged under a road bridge is pulled out.

The uprooted tree is stuck under Longham Bridge, crossing the River Stour at Longham, near Ferndown.

Dorset Council said the A348 Ringwood Road needed to be shut so the tree, which could cause structural damage to the Grade II listed bridge if left, can be removed.

The road is expected to close on Tuesday between 10:00 and 14:00 GMT.

The council said traffic would be diverted via the A341 through Bear Cross and the A347 through Parley Cross.

Drivers are being urged to allow extra time, re-route or delay their journey.
