A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found with fatal stab wounds in a car park in West Sussex, police said.

Officers were called to Station Way in Crawley, at about 07:10 BST, following a report of an altercation between a man and a woman.

Sussex Police said the area was searched and a woman was found in a nearby car park with stab injuries. She was treated by paramedics but was declared dead at the scene.

A 26-year-old man from Crawley was arrested a short time later and remains in police custody, the force said.

Supt Rachel Swinney said: “This is a tragic incident that has seen a young woman lose her life, and we are working hard to understand exactly what has happened."

She said officers were not searching for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Supt Swinney called for witnesses and anyone with information to contact the force.
