A man was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in Tamworth

A man was killed and a woman seriously injured when they were hit by a lorry in Tamworth.

Emergency services were called to the crash on the A5 near Tamworth Castle shortly after 19:00 GMT on Wednesday.

Paramedics gave the man life support but he was pronounced dead at the scene, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

The woman was treated for serious injuries that were not life-threatening and was then taken to hospital in Birmingham.
