Pedestrian injured after car mounts pavement

A man has been arrested after a pedestrian was hit by a car in Derby.

Derbyshire Police said officers had attempted to stop the driver of a BMW in Normanton Road at about 11:30 GMT before the car mounted the pavement and hit the pedestrian.

The man, who is in his 60s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening, the force said.

A man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody.

A section of Normanton Road near the Burton Road junction is expected to be closed "for some time", officers added.

East Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed it had sent a crew to the scene of the crash and that one patient had been taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.
