A new bike path designed to teach children the rules of the road has opened in Bath.

The improved cycleway in Alice Park features a roundabout, zebra crossings and stop junctions to help build cycling skills.

A new bench and road signs have also been installed as park of upgrades organised by the Alice Park Trust, Bath and North East Somerset Council and VolkerHighways.

Jacqui Wilson, owner of Alice Park Nursery, said the children were excited to use the new cycleway and particularly enjoyed the new signs.

The council and VolkerHighways, a company specialising in the delivery of highways and street lighting, held an educational session for children from the nursery and councillors from the Alice Park Trust sub-committee.

Ms Wilson said: "We have had lots of fun finding out what each sign means and it's great for teaching the children about road safety.”

Councillor Manda Rigby, cabinet member for highways, said: "The cycleway in Alice Park is a valued and well-used community resource and it’s great to see it improved."
