An estimated 40,000 pints of beer have been lost after a lorry trailer that was transporting the alcohol caught on fire on the M11.
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service was called to the southbound carriageway, between junction nine near Saffron Walden and junction eight for Bishop's Stortford, on Thursday at about 20:00 BST.
The blaze was put out by 21:03, but the road had to be closed while the trailer was removed.
The service said the lorry was carrying about 25 tonnes of beer and crews from Newport, Saffron Walden and Stansted attended the incident.
