A man has been charged following a fatal crash in Smethwick.

Police were called to Thimblemill Road shortly before 21:30 BST on Thursday after a car struck a woman. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the 62-year-old died at the scene.

Erjon Aliaj, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

The 35-year-old was remanded in custody to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "Our thoughts remain with the woman's family at this tragic time, and specialist officers are keeping them up-to-date with the latest developments."

Anyone with information who can help police with their inquiries, including dashcam or doorbell footage, is asked to contact the force.
