Recycling centres in Nottinghamshire will start to accept wood waste again after restrictions were introduced.

The temporary measures had been in place across 12 sites around the county due to "disruption with the onward recycling process" of wood.

Nottinghamshire County Council apologised and said it had been working to resolve the issue with its waste management partner, Veolia.

Residents are asked to store their wood waste until restrictions are lifted on Monday.

The Wood Recyclers' Association said the restrictions followed "particular pressure" in the waste wood market over the past six months due to a "number of planned and unplanned facility shut downs all happening at the same time".

A spokesperson for the body added this had impacted "biomass plants and panel board manufacturers' ability to store and process wood".

"This has meant that their supply chains have had to limit inbound wood to ensure they have stayed compliant with their environmental permits," they added.

"As facilities come back online and we move into autumn, it is expected that demand for waste wood will improve."

A spokesperson for Veolia confirmed the restrictions were not linked to a recent fire at its Worksop recycling centre.

The spokesperson added: "We apologise for the inconvenience caused and, in the meantime, we request that site users store their wood until the service resumes."

The sites currently not accepting wood waste are:

  • Beeston Recycling Centre

  • Bilsthorpe Recycling Centre

  • Calverton Recycling Centre

  • Giltbrook Recycling Centre

  • Hucknall Recycling Centre

  • Kirkby Recycling Centre

  • Mansfield Recycling Centre

  • Newark Recycling Centre

  • Retford Recycling Centre

  • Warsop Recycling Centre

  • West Bridgford Recycling Centre

  • Worksop Recycling Centre

Veolia confirmed the restrictions will be lifted on Monday.
