Food bank receives 'grand' donation to feed residents

More than sixty boxes of items have been delivered to a food bank in Weston-super-Mare.

The Grand Pier donated a variety of food to its local bank to prevent families from "going without".

With the donation thought to have come at a "crucial time" when many families are facing financial hardships and food insecurity - The Grand Pier hopes that it will "urge others to do the same".

The recent donation consisted of "nutritious and delicious" food including green vegetables, vegetable tarts and tomatoes, olive and red pepper pâté.

'Stop hunger in the local area'

Last year, the foodbank provided 8,740 three-day emergency food supplies to those in the area.

Supported by North Somerset Council and funded by local churches and community groups, the Weston-super-Mare Foodbank hopes to "stop hunger in the local area".

Tim Moyle, director of The Grand Pier, felt that the donation was a way of showing appreciation and support for its local food bank.

Mr Moyle said: "We believe in giving back to the community that has supported us for so many years."

The foodbank uses a voucher referral system which can be exchanged for a minimum of three days of emergency food.
