A 50-year-old man has been charged over a serious assault following the death of a man at a flat in North Lanarkshire.

The body of James McMaster, 53, was found when officers were called to Maxton Crescent in Wishaw at about 14:10 on 5 December.

The death was treated as suspicious after a post-mortem examination suggested he had been the victim of an attack.

Police Scotland said its inquiries into the incident were ongoing.

The man is due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

Det Ch Insp Bob Williamson said: "I would urge anyone who knew James to think back to the last time they saw or spoke to him and to get in touch, external."
