A police investigation is under way after human bones were discovered in the garden of a house in a North Lincolnshire village.

Officers were called to the property on Clouds Lane in Beltoft on Monday morning, Humberside Police said.

The remains were uncovered during building work at the site, the force added.

Det Insp Steve Antrobus said "the investigation is in the early stages".

"Throughout the week, many of our teams including patrol, neighbourhood police and specialist forensic officers have conducted extensive lines of enquiry that have led to the identification of the bones as human," he said.

"Excavation of the scene is under way, and enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this discovery.

"As our investigation progresses over the weekend and into next week, residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area. A scene guard was put in place at the property to allow our specialist teams to operate effectively, this remains in place at this time."
