Driver arrested after man hit by car

A driver has been arrested after a man was hit by a car in Nottingham.

Emergency services were called to the collision, involving a white BMW in Derby Road - close to the Savoy Cinema - at about 18:25 GMT on Thursday.

A man in his 20s, a pedestrian, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, Nottinghamshire Police said.

The force added a 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drugs. He remains in custody.

Det Sgt Charlotte Henson said the crash happened "on a major stretch of road at a busy time of day" and urged any witnesses to come forward.
