Emmerdale star James Moore has completed a charity climbing challenge in memory of his father who died of blood cancer.

The Cheltenham-born actor, 33, best known for playing Ryan Stocks in the tv soap, raised £2,300 for Myeloma UK by climbing the equivalent height of the UK's highest mountain, Ben Nevis, at 270 Climbing Park in Gloucester on Saturday.

Moore was joined by family and friends and the group took it in turns to climb the 55ft 7in (17m) wall and collectively they scaled it almost 80 times until they reached a total of 4,413ft (1,345m).

Moore, whose father Stephen died from myeloma in June, said: "I am very proud of what we have accomplished together, and I think my dad would be too."

He added that he felt "honoured" to raise the money and pay tribute to his dad.

"I hope that this money makes a difference in supporting other people with myeloma and their families."

David Stevens, director at 270 Climbing Park, said he was "incredibly proud" to have hosted the "truly inspiring" challenge.

"It was fantastic to see the community come together to support such an important cause, and we're delighted that the climb has raised vital funds for Myeloma UK."

The money raised will help the charity support patients, raise awareness of the disease and fund research into new treatments.
