The nursery will close if a new home cannot be found

A nursery is facing permanent closure due to the lease on its building running out.

The Wellingtons Day Nursery in Lawford Lane, Rugby, will close on 19 July if it fails to find another building.

One parent told the BBC she found the news "frustrating" due to a lack of local nursery places - while another nursery provider said closures meant a lack of early intervention for children with special needs.

Wellingtons Day Nursery, and the trust which runs Bilton School where it is based, declined to comment.

Long waiting lists

One mum, who did not want to be named, said moving to an all-year-round facility could cost up to £5,000 a year. She told the BBC: "It's frustrating, upsetting and worrying.

"I know from experience and I know from friends and family there aren't enough nursery places in the local area.

"The waiting list is one year plus. It's impossible to say we will find an alternative place before September."

Helen Slater works at another provider, Early Learning Camp in Coventry, and told BBC CWR that access to early years childcare was important for parents.

She said: "Without nurseries, there won't be any early intervention for safeguarding needs and early intervention for children with special educational needs.

"It's all key to giving children the best outcomes and that's exactly what we're here for."
