Residents are being invited to attend a summit with the aim of finding practical measures to stop sewage pollution.

Run by Cotswold District Council, the Sewage Summit will take place at the Corinium Museum in Cirencester on 8 July.

The free event will allow residents the opportunity to hear from and question water companies, local environmental groups and regulatory bodies.

Cllr Lisa Spivey, Cabinet Member for Communities and Public Safety, said: "It’s a disgrace that untreated sewage is being discharged into our waterways, causing harm to residents, wildlife and our precious environment."

She added: “We all need to work together to protect our environment and ensure a better future for everyone in the Cotswolds."

While the event is free, those who wish to attend are asked to book their place online so numbers can be managed.

The event comes after water companies released record spills of raw sewage into the sea and rivers in England in 2023.

Sewage was pumped into the River Coln for more than 44 days in January.
