A "calculated and predatory" man who followed a woman and raped her has been jailed.

Stefan Bolohan, of no fixed address, was described by police as a "danger to women" after he was sentenced to 13 years in prison on Friday.

The 39-year-old raped the woman on the green opposite Clarks Road in Bridgwater, Somerset, on 3 June 2022.

In a statement read out in court, the victim said: “Since the night it happened, I have tried my best to continue with life for my family. But this is easier said than done."

“There are constant reminders, and even without those reminders, I struggle to block out the awful fears, anger, anxiety and questions,” she continued.

Avon and Somerset Police said the attack was reported to them the day after it happened and Bolohan was then identified and arrested after a CCTV appeal.

'Horrific ordeal'

He was found guilty of one count of rape in March.

Det Insp Claire Millington said: "The CCTV in this case showed that Bolohan was calculated and predatory, following the victim and, when she was isolated and in an area of darkness, he took the opportunity to attack her and subject her to a horrific ordeal."

Bolohan was sentenced at Taunton Crown Court, sitting at North Somerset Magistrates' Court, to 13 years in prison, with an extended period of three years on licence.

He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register and the victim was granted a life-long restraining order against Bolohan, preventing him from contacting her.
