A group of teenagers have discovered skeletal remains on a beach that were later confirmed to be human.
Lancashire Police were called to Thornton-Cleveleys in Lancashire on Thursday at about 13:15 BST after reports a skeleton had been found.
The remains were tested and confirmed to be human, with efforts now being made "to identify the deceased and find out how they died", the force added.
Officers have urged bystanders who filmed the scene to avoid sharing footage, and said "real people affected by this, and ask that you please consider and respect that".
A spokesman for the force thanked the "teenagers who reported this to us for their assistance and to the members of the public for their patience while our officers carried out their duties".
Officers have appealed for anyone with information about the remains to contact them.
