The murder of a mum who was found dead in a car more than 30 years ago remains unsolved as detectives renew an appeal to trace her killer.

Veronica Anderson left her Widnes home in Cheshire after receiving a phone call at about 22:10 BST on Saturday 24 August 1991.

She asked a neighbour to take care of her six-year-old son where they lived in Hadfield Close.

Five hours later, the 42-year-old was found dead with her throat cut. Despite repeated appeals, her killer has never been caught.

The person who called her before her death has also never been identified.

Blood-stained glove

Known as Vera, Ms Anderson's body was found in her blue Cortina near Tannery Lane, Penketh – a five-minute drive from her home - shortly after 03:00 BST on Sunday.

A blood-stained glove and part of a sash cord was found by officers as Cheshire Constabulary launched a murder investigation.

Det Sgt Jessica Barlow, from the major crime review team, said: "The unsolved murder of Vera Anderson remains a very topical and emotive investigation in the Warrington and Widnes area.

"As with all of Cheshire Police cold cases, they are never closed or forgotten."

She said she hoped the "anniversary of her horrific murder may encourage people to speak out and contact us".
