Two men have been arrested after cannabis plants worth more than £450,000 were found at two town centre properties.

About 580 plants were found at two disused buildings in the centre of Welshpool, Powys, Dyfed Powys Police said.

A 31-year-old man has been charged with cultivating cannabis, and will appear in court on Wednesday, and a 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.

Police described them as overseeing “sophisticated set-ups” with a large number of knives, electronic devices, plants as well as “associated growing equipment”.

The potential street value of the plants is more than £450,000, police said.

A spokesperson for the force described it as “a very successful operation” involving work between a number of different police departments.

“We are committed to making our force area hostile to those who deal illegal drugs,” they said.
