A man has been arrested after a stolen car was stopped by a police stinger device.

Warwickshire Police said they were able to use it to deflate his tyres on the Tollbar roundabout on the outskirts of Coventry on Thursday evening.

He is due to be questioned on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle, dangerous driving, failing to stop and driving without a licence.

On the same night a motorcyclist was taken to hospital in a critical condition after coming off his bike on the same stretch of road.

The police said the stolen Ford failed to stop for officers on the A46 near Warwick and it was pursued to Coventry, where the stinger was used to deflate all four of its tyres at 21:39.

The man arrested at the scene was also wanted for similar offences, the force said, and he was held in custody overnight.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called to reports of a motorcyclist who had fallen from his bike near to the junction of the A46 and Oak Tree Road at 21:26 BST.

It said he had suffered serious injuries and was given trauma care before he was taken to University Hospital Coventry.

Warwickshire Police said the two incidents were not linked.
