Police have launched a murder investigation after an elderly man died following an assault.

The victim, an 82-year-old man from Slough, was attacked on Stoke Road at the junction with Elliman Avenue in the Berkshire town at about 15:50 BST on Tuesday.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition but died on Sunday morning, said Thames Valley Police.

Two boys, aged 15 and 16, were arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. They have both been released on bail.

The victim's family have been informed but formal identification has not taken place yet, the force said.

It said it was believed to have been an isolated incident, with no wider risk to the public.

Police appealed for anyone with relevant information or dashcam footage to come forward.
