Man in his 80s dies after motorway crash

A man in his 80s has died after a collision on a motorway.

Hertfordshire Police said it was called to reports of a collision involving a single red Mazda near the northbound entrance of junction nine of the A1(M) at about 11:43 GMT.

The road was closed in both directions between junction eight for Stevenage north and junction nine for Letchworth Garden City, and was reopened at about 17:00.

The force confirmed a man in his 80s was taken to hospital and died.

Three ambulances, an ambulance officer vehicle, the Hazardous Area Response Team and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were sent to the scene

A woman was assessed at the scene as having minor injuries, an ambulance service spokesperson said.
