Two men have appeared in court accused of hunting a wild boar with dogs.

David Stanbury, 53, and Thomas Bishop, 33, appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates Court on Tuesday after the discovery of a dead wild boar in the Forest of Dean on 31 December 2024.

Bishop, of Grove Close in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, admitted hunting a wild mammal with dogs and was fined £400.

Mr Stanbury, of Denstead Lane in Chartham Hatch, Kent, pleaded not guilty to hunting a wild mammal with dogs, three counts of possession of a bladed article and causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, namely a dog.

He will now face trial on 18 and 19 March 2026.
