A woman has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a man in his 60s.

Northumbria Police was called to an address on Sceptre Place, in the Elswick area of Newcastle, at 18:30 GMT on Monday, following reports of disturbance.

Emergency services found a man with "serious injuries", who died shortly after their arrival.

Det Insp Mark Atherton said the force believed the man and woman, also in her 60s, knew each other and appealed to the public for information.

The woman remained in police custody, the force added, and the man's next of kin had been informed.
