Fire crews are tackling a moorland fire in Derbyshire's Peak District National Park.

Crews from multiple stations in Derbyshire and South Yorkshire are at the scene of a fire at Froggatt Edge, north of Baslow, which was reported at about 15:30 BST on Friday.

The fire is being tackled using a water carrier from Buxton and specialist moorland equipment stationed in Glossop.

Derbyshire Police said the A625 was shut between Calver and Fox House due to the fire.

Police asked people to respect any further road closures put in place to support the firefighting operation.

The fire brigade said it had received a "high volume" of calls.

It asked people to avoid the area and residents nearby to keep windows and doors closed "if affected by the smoke plume".

With dry spring weather continuing, fire crews in the High Peak have been called to about 20 fires in the national park so far this year.

This included a major incident in Goyt Valley, which shut roads and took days to bring under control.

High Peak Borough Council is currently proposing to introduce an order for public areas of the Peak District within its borders, banning barbecues and campfires and giving powers to police and council officers "to reduce the risk of wildfires".
