Libraries across East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire are to receive a share of a £33m government funding announcement across England.

Hull Culture and Leisure Library Services, East Riding Libraries and North Lincolnshire Council are among those to share in the funding.

The money is from the Cultural Investment Fund, a nationwide initiative.

It will support upgrades to the public libraries including vital repairs and renovations.

Hull Centre and Leisure Library Services is to receive £395,000 which will go towards its Making Makerspaces project.

Hull Central Library is already part of the initiative, with digital and electronic equipment installed at its premises.

Michelle Alford, library services director for Hull Culture and Leisure Ltd said the funding would create "exciting centres of digital innovation" in more of its branch libraries.

Bridlington North and Bridlington Central libraries have been awarded £246,000 for essential work and repairs.

'Vital funding'

The funding would go towards new spaces at both libraries with sensory areas and movable shelves to double up as both performance and workshop spaces.

Improvements to the Bridlington libraries are expected to begin within the next two years.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council said the funding would be "vital to the development" of the Bridlington libraries.

North Lincolnshire Council will receive £141,766 for Scunthorpe Central, the central library for North Lincolnshire.

The funding is part of an announcement of £33m to improve nearly 70 museums and libraries across England.

In total, 26 museums are to receive funding as well as 43 library services.
