A third man has been charged with the murder of a County Durham grandfather.

Barry Dawson, 60, was shot dead through the window of his home in Elm Street, Stanley, on 5 April.

Kelvin Craig Lawson was arrested following the execution of a warrant in Stanley, Durham Police said.

The 37-year-old, from the town, entered no plea at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court and was remanded to appear at Teesside Crown Court on Monday.

Two other men have also been charged with Mr Dawson's murder.

Thomas Lee Sterling, 21, from Stanley, and 38-year-old Kevin Dorward, of Annfield Plain, are currently going through the court system.

Michaela Hetherington, 35 and from Annfield Plain, has been charged with perverting the course of justice.
