A city play park is set to close as refurbishment work gets underway.

The John Deasy play area in St George's Park, Bristol, will close for seven weeks and is expected to reopen on 4 November.

The work will be completed in two phases after £145,000 was raised by local parent group, Play in St George's Park.

The first phase of work includes removal of the existing equipment, re-landscaping and installation of new play equipment.

The work has been funded by a crowdfunder and grants totalling £145,000 raised by the Play in St George's Park Group

The group plan on dividing the playground into two separate areas, one for younger children and another for older kids.

Some of the current equipment will be moved, with a new toddler area and sandpit introduced and a new swing set.

The first phase will also include three new pieces of equipment, somersault bars and a sensory play area.

Meanwhile, subject to more fundraising, the second phase of the work will include an accessible roundabout and play equipment for older children.
