Child seriously injured after fall from window

A child has been seriously injured after falling from a window.

The incident happened on Monday at a block of flats in Somerleyton Gardens, Norwich, close to the city centre.

A man who lives near to where the fall took place said that "everyone on the block was worried".

The child was taken to hospital and the injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The emergency services were called to the flats at 12:43 BST on Monday after receiving a report that a child had fallen from a height.

Tekura Maeva, 45, lives nearby and said she heard crying and when she looked out her window she saw the child's mother "run out crying".

"It looked very traumatic" and the "the ambulance came very quickly", she said.

The East of England Ambulance Service said the child was taken to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for further care.

Joseph Bigsby-Bye, 18, was at home when it happened and said it was "very scary".

"It was worrying, everyone on the block was worried."

Norfolk Police has opened an investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
