Resurfacing work set to begin to improve safety

Resurfacing work is set to start on a road in north Shropshire once described as one of the most dangerous in the UK.

The A529 around Market Drayton has undergone several schemes in recent years in a bid to improve the route.

Shropshire Council said it would close between 9:30 GMT and 16:00 GMT from 13 to 17 January to allow teams to work safely.

The work will be carried out in the town to improve the approaches to the Adderley Road zebra crossing, from the Prospect Road mini-roundabout to the stone railway bridge.

It has been supported by the government as part of its Safer Roads Fund, with the aim of improving safety on the A529 between Hinstock and Audlem.

The council said diversion signs would be in place during the project and access to homes and businesses would be maintained if possible.

However, it called on local residents within the area of the works to avoid parking on the road.
