Four arrested at Oxford v Reading game

An order was put in place ahead of the game giving police powers to disperse troublemakers

Four people have been arrested following Oxford United's League One match against Reading.

Thames Valley Police had implemented a "highly visible and robust" operation ahead of Saturday's derby at the Kassam Stadium in Oxford, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Three men and a 15-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of offences including possession of a Class A drug and racially aggravated harassment.

All of those arrested were Berkshire residents, police said.

Section 35 and 60AA orders were in place from 08:00 GMT, giving officers powers to disperse troublemakers and act against anyone concealing their identity.

The measures were taken after 10 people were arrested before the last match between the two clubs in December.

A 34-year-old man from Wokingham, a 29-year-old man from Reading and a 19-year-old man from Newbury remain in custody.

A 15-year-old boy from Caversham, Reading, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a flare.

Supt Adrian Hall said: “The behaviour exhibited by a minority of individuals was unacceptable and as a result, we took action to ensure they didn’t pose a further risk of anti-social behaviour and impact others.

“Twenty-nine people still remain on conditional bail following the reverse fixture on 12 December 2023 and the investigation is still ongoing."

Supt Hall thanked those who "positively engaged with the police" throughout the day.
