A giant rubber duck re-imagined as Captain Quack Sparrow has won first place in a charity competition.

The ducks were submitted by Surrey businesses to take part in the annual duck race, part of Staines-upon-Thames Day.

The event, which took place on Sunday on the River Thames, raises money for local charity MidasPlus.

Mike Wylie, trustee at MidasPlus, said the event is the charity's "flagship event in terms of raising money".

The duck designed to look like the character played by Johnny Depp in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series, won in the best designed duck competition.

MidasPlus helps individuals and groups with physical or learning difficulties, who are suffering financial hardship, across Spelthorne and Runnymede and has donated more than £200,000 to various causes.

It is run by four unpaid volunteers.

A small duck race was also held, where children and individuals could purchase a duck to race.

The winner took a £100 voucher for a Staines restaurant.
