Head teacher of Herm Primary School resigns

The teacher in charge of Herm Primary School has resigned after 18 years.

Mary Carey had been on a prolonged period of absence.

The small Channel Island school was closed at the beginning of this academic year by the States until a u-turn on the decision to reopen it following public pressure.

States Education has said that while they did not comment on individual teacher resignations or personal circumstances, they could confirm they had staff in place to deliver education in Herm.

Mary Carey said it was a "privilege" to have taught in the school

The head teacher of Vauvert Primary school, Adrian Paul, informed parents of her departure yesterday in an email to parents.

Mrs Carey said: "Herm Island, the wider community and the pupils past and present will always have a special place in my heart."

She continued: "It was an honour to educate all of the 40 children in Herm in that time, throughout their primary years and see their confidence and knowledge grow.

"I hope unique experience helped in their next stages of education and future lives. I hope the same will be said for me as I start a new chapter in my own life."
