Devon hospitals launch microbiology workshops

Events for individuals interested in microbiology or pathology are being held by the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
Students, career-changers and those interested in science were being invited to discover more about how a career in clinical microbiology or cellular pathology worked, organisers said.
The interactive "micro detective" events are due to take place in June and July at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital and North Devon District Hospital respectively.
Microbiology service manager Amy Denman-Johnson said she was "keen to help students understand more".
Biomedicine's 'hidden role'
She said: “These events have been created to give people a chance to understand the hidden role biomedical scientists plays in patient care.
"We are keen to help students understand more of the career options and routes available, as well as to experience first-hand what it is like to be a micro detective.”
The two career events would offer "a unique opportunity to discover how lab scientists make a difference in patients' lives through fun activities", the trust added.
The first workshop is due to take place on 11 June at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital, Exeter.
The second event is to run on 18 July at North Devon District Hospital, Barnstaple.
